Edit the movements, add your own, or slide back through the steps. The layers are the stock ERPNext still holds, and at what rate.
Stock movements, in order
FIFO
Oldest stock goes out first
Moving Average
Every unit at one average rate
LIFO
Newest stock goes out first
Set it per item, or as the default
Stock Settings holds the default valuation method; an Item can carry its own.
Changing it later is one-way
Once an item has submitted transactions it can move to Moving Average, never back to FIFO or LIFO. The default locks once items using it have stock entries.
What it changes
Only how the cost of stock that leaves is worked out. Quantities and selling prices are untouched.
FIFO, Moving Average and LIFO. Stock Settings holds the default and an Item can carry its own.
It keeps the stock as layers of quantity and rate in the order they came in, and an issue takes from the oldest layer first. A receipt at the same rate as the last layer joins it.
Each receipt resets the rate to the total value divided by the total quantity; an ordinary issue goes out at that rate and leaves it unchanged.
Only one way: once an item has submitted transactions it can move to Moving Average, but not back to FIFO or LIFO.
No. Only the value of stock and the cost of what leaves it.
We look at how you buy, store and price stock, set the method per item, and bring opening stock in at the right values. Talk to a consultant.
