What you use today
To version 14
Needs Python 3.10+, Node 18+, MariaDB 10.6.6+
HR and payroll moves to Frappe HR (hrms). patch: remove_hr_and_payroll_modules — removes the HR and Payroll modules unless hrms is installed
GST and Indian taxes moves to India Compliance. patch: remove_india_localisation — removes GST settings, HSN codes and GST print formats unless india_compliance is installed
Order matters: the switch below runs the migration, and its patch removes the HR and Payroll module unless hrms is already installed on the site. Frappe documents no single sequence for this — rehearse on a copy and check that data before going live.

To version 16
Needs Python 3.14, Node 24, MariaDB 11.8

Before any of it
Going one major version at a time is our advice: each version’s patches assume the one before ran, and older patches are gradually dropped from the list.
Our advice is to go one major version at a time — 14, then 15, then 16 — rehearsing each on a copy. Each version’s patches assume the previous one ran.
They moved into the Frappe HR app. During the migration a patch removes the HR and Payroll modules from ERPNext unless Frappe HR is installed on the site, so plan for it and rehearse on a copy.
India-specific features moved to the India Compliance app. A patch removes GST settings, HSN codes and GST print formats unless India Compliance is installed.
Take a backup, then run bench switch-to-branch with the new version for frappe, erpnext and your other apps, with --upgrade. bench then backs up the sites, migrates them and rebuilds the assets.
Python 3.14, Node 24 and MariaDB 11.8 by Frappe’s installation guide — newer than versions 14 and 15 — so the server’s toolchain changes too.
We rehearse every hop on a copy of your site, move the modules that left ERPNext into their apps, and upgrade live only when it all checks out. Talk to a consultant.
