Everything that has to be in place for ERPNext to calculate GST, raise e-Invoices and e-Way Bills, and reconcile GSTR-2B — powered by the free India Compliance app.
30 checks · 7 sections
A point worth stating up front: GST is not built into core ERPNext. It is delivered by a separate, open-source app called India Compliance (github.com/resilient-tech/india-compliance, docs.indiacompliance.app), maintained by Resilient Tech and installed on top of ERPNext. Once that app is in place, ERPNext can calculate CGST/SGST/IGST, generate e-Invoices (IRN and QR) and e-Way Bills, and reconcile your purchases against GSTR-2B. This is a reference — a map of what a complete GST setup actually involves, from installing the app to filing-ready returns — not a tick-box tracker. Use it to sanity-check your own configuration, or as the agenda for a setup call with us.

No. GST in ERPNext is provided by a separate, open-source app called India Compliance (by Resilient Tech), installed on top of ERPNext. It adds GST calculation, e-Invoicing, e-Way Bills and GSTR-2B reconciliation. Core ERPNext without it does not do Indian GST.
You can run tax calculation and export returns as JSON without any API connection. The API-backed features — live GSTIN validation, one-click e-Invoice (IRN/QR), e-Way Bill generation, and downloading GSTR-2A/2B — require an India Compliance Account and GSP credentials. Many businesses start without APIs and enable them as they scale.
Once you enable e-Invoicing in GST Settings and add GSP credentials, ERPNext can send a Sales Invoice to the IRP on submission and receive back the IRN and signed QR code. You choose auto-generation or per-invoice, and set how Nil/Exempt/Non-GST items are handled. The IRN and QR then print on your compliant tax invoice.
GSTR-2B is the static statement of input tax credit available to you from suppliers' filings. The app's Purchase Reconciliation Tool matches your purchase invoices against it so you claim the correct ITC in GSTR-3B, and surfaces mismatches — invoices missing on either side, or supplier-filing gaps — before you file.
