A throwaway demo with Docker
Frappe’s own Docker repository has a one-file demo. It is meant to be thrown away — no custom apps, not for real data.
1Install Docker and Git on your computer.
2Get Frappe’s Docker repository.
git clone https://github.com/frappe/frappe_docker cd frappe_docker
3Start the demo.
docker compose -f pwd.yml up -d
4After a couple of minutes, open port 8080 and sign in as Administrator with the password admin.
5Or skip installing anything: Frappe Cloud, Frappe’s own hosting, lets you sign up and create a site. frappecloud.com
Where it gets hard
Nothing — that is the point. Just don’t put real data in it.
Yes. ERPNext is open source under GPL v3 and its code is on GitHub at github.com/frappe/erpnext. You pay only for the server it runs on and for any help you hire.
No. ERPNext is a web application: it runs on a Linux server and you use it in a browser. Frappe’s installation guide supports macOS and Debian or Ubuntu, and suggests Ubuntu in WSL for Windows users.
Frappe’s Docker repository has a one-file demo: clone frappe_docker and run docker compose -f pwd.yml up -d, then open port 8080. It is meant to be thrown away, not used for real data.
bench’s Easy Install script sets up Docker, Frappe’s production images, HTTPS and a first ERPNext site on a Linux server with one deploy command.
Get it only from Frappe’s own sources: the GitHub repositories, Frappe’s Docker images or Frappe Cloud. Anything sold as an “ERPNext setup file” is not from Frappe.
We install ERPNext on Frappe Cloud or your own server, then keep it backed up, upgraded and supported. Talk to a consultant.
