Payments
Received from Metro Mart, not yet against an invoice
Invoices
Still outstanding, oldest first
Before
Three invoices look overdue. Two payments float on their own.
Receivables reports read each invoice’s outstanding, so a customer who has paid can still look late, and an unallocated payment shows up as a separate credit.
After
One invoice part-paid. Nothing floating.
What the customer owes is unchanged. What changes is which invoices are actually still due, which is what reminders and ageing go by.
Left out to keep it readable
On Payment Reconciliation it lists unallocated payments and outstanding invoices oldest first, then allocates each selected payment to the selected invoices from the top until the payment is used up. You can change any amount before you reconcile.
No. It moves payments onto invoices. The total the customer owes stays the same; what changes is which invoices still show as due.
Yes. Credit notes appear alongside payments on Payment Reconciliation and are allocated against invoices the same way.
There is an “Auto reconcile Payments” switch in Accounts Settings, off by default, which runs reconciliation as a background job.
We clear unallocated payments and set ERPNext up so payments land on the right invoices. Talk to a consultant.
