Pick a pattern or write your own. The preview follows Frappe’s own naming rules.
Parts you can use, between dots
##### · YYYY · YY · MM · DD · JJJ · WW · FY · TFY · ABBR · {item}
The next five
ERPNext keeps a counter for the prefix BATCH-2026-.
A year later the first one is BATCH-2027-00001 — the prefix changed, so the count starts again at 1.
Batch numbers
Item › Batch Number Series, with “Automatically Create New Batch” ticked. Without a series ERPNext uses Stock Settings’ naming series, or a random code.
Serial numbers
Item › Serial Number Series. Receiving stock then creates the serial numbers for you.
Whose date?
Dates in the series are today’s, unless Global Defaults says to use the receipt’s posting date.
On the Item, tick “Automatically Create New Batch” and give a Batch Number Series such as BATCH-.YYYY.-.#####. A receipt without a batch number then gets the next one.
ERPNext keeps a separate counter for each prefix. If the series contains the year, the prefix changes in January and the count starts again.
Yes, with {item} as its own part between dots — {item}.-.YY.MM.-.###. Glued to other text it is left out.
Today’s date, unless “Use Posting Datetime for Naming Documents” is on in Global Defaults; then the receipt’s posting date.
ERPNext uses the naming series in Stock Settings if it is switched on (BATCH-.##### by default), otherwise a random code.
We design the number series, set up batch and serial tracking per item, and print the labels that carry them. Talk to a consultant.
