How often should you never run out?
A common planning rule: safety stock = z × variation × √lead time. It is not built into ERPNext — ERPNext takes the numbers you settle on.

It checks projected stock
What is in stock plus what is ordered and requested, minus what is reserved — so it will not re-order what is already coming.
It runs once a day
ERPNext checks every item with re-order levels in its daily job and drafts the Material Requests.
If projected stock has fallen so far that one re-order quantity would not lift it back over the level, ERPNext adds the gap to the request.
Give the item a re-order level and quantity per warehouse and switch on “Raise Material Request when stock reaches re-order level” in Stock Settings. Once a day ERPNext drafts a Material Request for every item at or below its level.
It looks at projected stock: what is in stock plus what is ordered and requested, minus what is reserved. So stock already on its way is not ordered twice.
No. You set the level and quantity on the item; this tool shows one common way to work them out from usage, variation and lead time.
If one re-order quantity would not lift projected stock back over the level, ERPNext adds the difference to the request.
Yes. Each re-order row has a Material Request Type: Purchase, Transfer, Material Issue or Manufacture.
We work out levels per item and warehouse from your own history, switch on automatic requests, and route them to the right buyer. Talk to a consultant.
