It's a Friday evening and a family wants a car for the weekend. They ring the rental desk. Is the SUV free from Saturday morning? Someone checks a diary. What does it cost for two days? Someone works it out. Then come the documents — a licence photographed and sent on WhatsApp, an ID to be verified by eye, a deposit discussed over the phone, a booking pencilled in and confirmed with a second call. Multiply that by every enquiry on a busy weekend and the constraint on the business isn't the fleet. It's the phone line.
That was the position at EVM Wheels, part of the EVM Group — a premium self-drive car rental service running sedans, SUVs and hatchbacks across Kerala, serving residents and tourists on both short-term and long-term hire, with a reputation built on vehicle quality, affordability and convenience. Every one of those strengths sat behind a manual booking process that had to be repeated, by a person, for every customer.
Acube built EVM Wheels a fully custom Flutter mobile app on a lightweight backend — one codebase for Android and iOS — covering vehicle browsing, live availability, date and time scheduling, digital KYC, in-app payments and real-time GPS tracking of the vehicle during the rental, with an admin dashboard behind it for the EVM team. The headline result: 70% of bookings are now processed through the mobile app.

it was built to support future B2B or subscription rental models without a rebuild. The underlying shift: the booking record is now created by the customer, at the moment of the decision, complete with documents and payment — and everything the office does afterwards is a consequence of that record rather than a reconstruction of it.
We didn't start with screens. We started with the rental counter: what a customer asks first, what actually decides whether the car is available, which documents the law requires before the keys change hands, and where the money moves. Only then did we design the flow and build it.
Two decisions carried the project. The first was Flutter from the outset — one codebase for Android and iOS meant the app reached both sets of customers at once, with the same interface and no second build cycle to fund. The second was designing KYC and payment as part of the booking flow rather than as steps after it; a rental app that sends a customer elsewhere to verify a licence or settle a bill is an app that loses them between screens.
And we didn't leave at launch. App store deployment, version management and regular feature upgrades are part of the engagement — because a live consumer app on two platforms needs someone maintaining it. That is the same long-term support practice we run for every client: in business since 2011, with 70% of our work coming by referral.
