Nobody would call Wayanad an industrial district, and heavy engineering software would be wasted here. A tea factory or curing works knows its outturn for the season but not for last Tuesday. Batch-wise recording of input and output shows how yield varies with leaf quality, weather and shift, which is where improvement starts.
Pouches, cartons and labels come from Kozhikode or Coimbatore, and a missed reorder stops the line for days. Material planning against open orders and minimum levels raises the purchase request while there is still time for the lorry to climb the ghat.
Buyers and food safety rules increasingly ask where a packet came from. Batch numbers linking finished goods to production runs and raw material receipts let a complaint be traced and a recall kept narrow.
An example
A coffee roasting and spice-powder unit in the KINFRA park at Vellamkunnu starts a work order at eight: clean Robusta from a named farm lot, roasted to the medium profile, ground and packed in two pouch sizes. The operator records the green weight in and the roasted weight out, and the batch card shows the outturn against the standard. It is a little low, and the supervisor notes the high moisture at receipt. Material planning has already raised a purchase request for pouches because the Kozhikode supplier needs a week. By afternoon the packed goods carry a batch number that traces back to the farm lot, and the cost per pouch, including the roaster's fuel, is on the owner's screen before the lorry leaves.

50-acre KINFRA park at Vellamkunnu (Chundale, on the Mysore road) with 34 units; thrust sectors are non-polluting general industry and food processing, with cold storage on site. The state DIC lists all plots as allotted.
