There are no large industrial estates in Idukki, and heavy manufacturing is not what the district does. Its factories are of another kind: tea factories on the estates around Munnar, Peermade and Vandiperiyar that process green leaf within hours of plucking; cardamom curing houses; spice cleaning, grinding and extraction units at the KINFRA park in Muttom; plywood units; and small makers of jaggery, chocolate and packaged foods around Thodupuzha.
What these share is variable input. The same kilo of leaf or spice yields differently depending on moisture, season and handling. A tea factory's made-tea percentage, or a curing house's dry yield, is often calculated weeks later from totals. Recording input and output for each batch or each day shows out-turn immediately, while the manager can still link a bad figure to a cause.
One batch produces several grades plus dust, husk or rejects, each with a different value. If cost is spread evenly by weight, the good grades look cheaper than they are. ERPNext can apportion cost across grades and by-products on a basis you define.
Export buyers and organised retailers increasingly ask where a batch came from and what was done to it. Batch numbers carried from grower purchase through processing to the packed carton answer that in minutes, including for residue or quality complaints.
An example
A spice-powder unit at the KINFRA park in Muttom starts a Tuesday with a work order for a chilli-and-coriander blend against a distributor's order. The supervisor issues the cleaned raw material to the line by batch, and the operator records the output of powder, the coarse rejects and the packing material used at the end of the shift. ERPNext posts the yield against the expected out-turn and apportions the batch cost across the powder and the rejects that will be sold cheaply. The quality check on moisture is entered before packing, and each carton carries the batch number that leads back to the grower lots. By evening the owner knows what that day's blend cost per kilo.

Yes. We set a standard bill of materials with expected out-turn, then record actual input and output for each batch. The system reports the variance instead of forcing the standard. Over a season you build a reliable picture of yield by source, month and process.
It can. Own-estate crop is transferred in at a cost you define, and bought leaf or spice comes in as a purchase with supplier, weight and quality. Both feed the same production batches, and reports separate the out-turn and cost of each source.
Possibly, in its full form. A small unit may need only stock, simple production entries and accounts, and we would set up just those. ERPNext has no per-user licence fee, so you are not paying for modules you leave switched off.
