Walk into a spice godown in Kattappana and you will see stacks marked in chalk: a grower's name, a date, perhaps a grade. The storekeeper knows what is where. The books, kept elsewhere, know only the total weight bought and sold. Between the two lies everything that matters: which lot, what grade, how old, whose money is in it, and how much weight it has lost.
Inventory and warehouse management software on ERPNext closes that distance. A trader's godown behind the Kattappana market takes in the week's cardamom on a Monday. Each grower's delivery is weighed at the gate and entered on a tablet with grade, moisture and the godown bay it goes to. Sacks held on a grower's behalf until he decides to sell are booked to a separate warehouse, so they appear in the count but not in the trader's own valuation. In the afternoon a lot that has finished drying is weighed again; the system posts the loss against that batch and shows it beside the norm. Before he locks up, the owner's phone shows stock by grade and age across this godown and the smaller one at Nedumkandam, and which lots should be offered first.
