Pay here is often by the kilogram peeled or the thousand rolled, to a workforce that is largely women. Payroll software has to handle piece rates as naturally as monthly salaries.

The wage question in a Kasaragod unit is rarely how much somebody earns a month. It is how much this worker produced this week, at what rate, less what advance, and whether the statutory deductions were worked out on the right figure. Most units answer it with a register, a calculator and two long evenings.
HR and payroll on ERPNext brings employee records, attendance, leave, shifts, salary structures, statutory deductions and payslips into one place, posting straight to the accounts. PF, ESI, professional tax and TDS sit in the salary structure. Output-based wages are not standard, so we configure them: daily production per worker feeds an earnings component and the payslip shows how the figure was reached.

Output is recorded on a shed register, totalled weekly and converted to wages by somebody with a calculator. One transposed figure is a dispute. Captured daily against each worker, the calculation runs itself and the worker can be shown the basis.
Muster, wage register and contribution statements are put together when somebody asks for them, from sources that were never designed to agree. Generated from the same payroll run, they agree by construction and can be produced on the day.
Festival advances, loans against wages and small cash given during the season live in one person's notebook. Held against the employee with a recovery schedule, they are deducted automatically and the balance is visible to both sides.

An example
It is Friday afternoon at a peeling shed outside Kasaragod town. Each woman's output has been weighed and entered daily on a tablet at the supervisor's table, so nothing has to be reconstructed now. The week's wages compute from the agreed rates, less the advance taken at the start of the month, and the slips print in Malayalam with the weights shown line by line. The one disagreement, over Wednesday's second lot, is settled by opening that day's entry. The wage register, contribution statement and the accounting entry all come from the same run, and nobody sits down on Sunday to prepare them.
We take one pay cycle and run it twice, once your way and once in the system, then sit with the two results until every difference is explained. That is the only reliable way to move payroll. Salary structures and statutory setups are configured remotely with your accountant. Supervisors are trained on site, on the tablet or phone they will actually use at the shed.

Blueprint and fixed scope. A clear plan, the deliverables and the timeline, agreed in writing before configuration starts.
Configuration. Employees, shifts, attendance, leave, salary structures, PF, ESI, professional tax and TDS.
Data migration. Employee records, salary structures and opening balances, moved and checked.
Training, go-live and support. Your team tests on real data, we stand beside you at launch, then support continues under a plan.
The scope and timeline are agreed in writing before work starts.
Cashew processing
Shelling, peeling and grading wages calculated from daily weights per worker, with attendance, overtime and statutory deductions on the same payslip and the wage cost posted against the batch.
Beedi and small manufacturing
Material issued and finished pieces returned per worker, rates by product, and a wage register that satisfies the records these trades are expected to keep.
Retail showrooms and hospitals
Shift rosters across branches and departments, leave balances that staff can see themselves, incentive components tied to sales or duties, and one payroll run covering several locations.
Yes, once it is configured for your rates. Daily production per worker feeds an earnings component, and the payslip shows quantity, rate and amount. Mixed cases, where someone has a monthly base plus piece earnings, are handled in the same structure.
Usually as contractor-wise records rather than as employees, so you hold attendance and the bill without taking on an employment relationship you do not have. Where they are direct, they go in as employees with the correct statutory treatment.
Most can. Punches are imported and matched to shifts and leave, with exceptions listed for a supervisor to approve. We check the make and the export format before committing, because that is where these connections usually fail.
After a first conversation about your headcount, locations, attendance sources and salary rules, we agree the scope and send you a written quotation. The price, the deliverables and the timeline are fixed against that scope before any work starts, so nothing grows without your sign-off.
You speak to someone who does this work, not a call centre. They ask about how many people you pay, how attendance is captured and how payroll is run today. If it looks like a fit, we agree the scope and put it in writing, with the timeline, before any work starts. If it does not, we tell you.
Cashew cultivation and processing (Kannur–Kasaragod belt)cluster
Kerala's ODOP note names cashew products for Kasaragod: cultivation in the state is concentrated in Kannur and Kasaragod, while most processing capacity sits in Kollam; Kanhangad is known for cashew growing and export
Processing in this belt employs large numbers of women on output-based wages, which is the single most common payroll requirement a district unit brings to us.

Hand-woven cotton sarees of the Saliya weaving community, produced through a weavers' cooperative society founded in 1938; registered as a Geographical Indication in 2010
Weavers working through a cooperative are paid per piece with yarn issued against the job, so wages and material accounting have to be settled in the same calculation.

Kerala SIDCO's main estate in the district at Vidya Nagar, Kasaragod, with 68 sheds
Sheds in the estate run mixed workforces of monthly staff and daily or piece-rate workers, and a payroll that handles only one of those leaves half the work manual.
