It is four in the morning and the lorries are unloading at the wholesale vegetable yard. A buyer for a chain of city outlets receives against his purchase orders on a phone, crate by crate, and short supply is recorded as it is found rather than argued about at noon. Each lot gets a batch, so this morning's arrival and yesterday's never mix on the same rack. By six the goods are on their way to three stores as material transfers, and each store confirms receipt at its own gate. At eight the purchase head opens the shortage report, sees two lines below reorder level, and the requests are already waiting for him.

Yes. Batch and expiry are captured at goods receipt, carried through every transfer and sale, and reported by item, warehouse and date range. Expired batches can be blocked from sale, and picking suggests the earliest expiry without the storekeeper having to check.
