Rain has been falling on Kochuveli since Sunday and the power has gone twice. In the old arrangement the billing machine would be off and the day lost. Today the manager opens the same screens from a laptop on a mobile hotspot, because the system now runs in a data centre far from the weather. On Wednesday our engineer takes the month's restore drill: last night's backup is brought up on a fresh instance, a storekeeper checks three recent stock entries against it, and the copy is destroyed. The report goes to the managing partner with the time recovery actually took.
A migration begins with an inventory of what you run and how it is used. We rehearse the move on a copy, agree a cut-over window, often a weekend, and keep the old system available until you sign off.
