An example
On a Saturday in December a provisions and pilgrim-supplies shop near Chengannur railway station opens before the first train. Pilgrims from Tamil Nadu and Andhra buy in groups, and the cashier scans irumudi cloth, camphor and ghee packets at the counter while a second terminal bills bottled water by the case. UPI and card settle against the shift as they come. At noon the owner, at his other shop in Kayamkulam, sees the Chengannur counter's sales and notices that coconut oil is nearly out; he raises a transfer from the Kayamkulam godown. The evening's shift closing shows cash, card and UPI against system sales, and the difference is a few coins.
We visit each shop to look at the counter layout, the hardware and the internet connection before proposing anything. Item masters and barcodes are cleaned and loaded, printers and scanners configured, and cashiers trained at their own counters, in Mullakkal, Mannar or Chengannur.
