A building materials dealer with a godown on the Chippada industrial estate and a shop in Gajuwaka opens at eight. A lorry of TMT bars is received on the tablet by heat number and weight; the piece count is entered beside it. Two contractor orders are picked and the delivery notes carry the e-way bill numbers. A transfer of cement to the Gajuwaka shop leaves in transit and is received there at half past nine. A return of damaged fittings goes to a rejected bin rather than back onto the shelf. At ten the owner, still at home, opens the stock summary: by item, by location, in tonnes and in pieces, and the figure agrees with the yard because nobody wrote anything on a slip.
