Quotations are based on experience, and actual cost is never compared afterwards. With material issues, job card time and subcontract charges booked to the work order, each job closes with a real cost, and the next quotation is better informed.
Without a requirement calculation, purchase runs on shouted requests from the floor. Material planning from open orders and current stock shows what to buy and by when, and prevents duplicate purchases of plate already lying in stores.
Machining, galvanising and heat treatment are routinely sent outside. Material leaves on a challan and returns weeks later with a bill. Subcontracting in ERPNext tracks what is lying with each processor and reconciles quantity received against quantity sent.
An example
A machine shop in the Pedagantyada industrial park receives a purchase order from a large public-sector buyer for gearbox housings on Monday. The bill of materials is copied from the last similar job and the casting requirement goes to purchase the same morning. On Wednesday the castings arrive, are inspected at receipt and issued to the work order. The operator starts the job card on a tablet at the lathe; the machining time posts against the order without a clerk. On Friday the plant's inspector records his readings in the inspection template and the certificate prints in the plant's format. The delivery note leaves with the e-way bill, and the owner sees the job's cost against the quotation before the lorry is out of the gate.
