Stock accuracy is a daily argument in Palakkad's industrial belt. A warehouse at Walayar holds goods for several owners and must account for every pallet. Third-party warehouses near the border count by hand, pallet by pallet. With a tag on each pallet and a handheld reader, a full aisle is counted while walking. Counts can be done weekly without halting inward and outward movement.
Moulds, dies, gauges and fixtures move between presses, the tool room and outside repairers, and the record is a notebook. Metal-mount tags and a reader at the tool room door log every movement, so the ERP shows where each item is and when it is due for maintenance.
A mis-shipment to a distributor in Tamil Nadu is found days later and costs a return trip. A fixed reader at the dispatch bay checks tagged pallets against the delivery note as the forklift passes and raises an alarm when something does not belong to that load.
An example
A third-party warehouse on the Walayar side of Kanjikode holds tyres, packaged food and spare parts for several owners. On Tuesday morning the supervisor walks the racks with a handheld Zebra reader, and every pallet in the aisle is counted before he reaches the end of it. Through the day, lorries load at the dock; a fixed reader over the door checks each tagged pallet against the delivery note as the forklift passes. Once it stops a driver: a pallet for Salem on a load bound for Kochi. In the afternoon a new consignment of cartons arrives from a food unit in the Mega Food Park, already tagged at its packing line, and goes straight into put-away.
RFID depends on physics, so we test before we propose a full rollout. Technically yes, practically seldom. Tagging every low-value bag rarely makes sense. Tagging pallets, lots or godown bays can, especially for branded rice moving to distributors. For paddy and bulk rice, weighbridge integration and lot tracking in ERPNext give better control.
Barcodes are fine when items are few and each can be presented to a scanner. RFID earns its place when volume is high, counting is frequent or items are hard to reach, such as pallets on upper racks or tools in cabinets.
