Design is rarely the first thing a Palakkad business asks for, and we will not pretend otherwise. There is no large product-startup scene here. Standard ERP forms show every field to everyone. A press operator needs three: job, quantity, rejects. A redesigned workstation screen with large controls, colour states and no keyboard entry gets production booked in real time instead of from paper at the end of the shift.
Factories here employ Malayalam and Tamil speakers alongside workers from northern and eastern states. Text-heavy screens defeat them all. Icons, photographs of parts, colour and minimal wording, tested with the actual workforce, make a screen usable across languages.
A manufacturer launches an ordering portal and the dealers keep phoning. Usually the login is awkward, the catalogue is hard to search and the phone version is an afterthought. Redesigning around a shopkeeper's two-minute reorder, on a phone, is what changes the habit.
