It is a Tuesday in the picking season at a trading house on the road to Vandanmedu. Growers arrive from first light with sacks of green cardamom. Each sack is weighed, graded and entered against the grower on a tablet at the gate, with the advance he took before the rains shown beside it. By noon the owner, at the family supermarket in Thodupuzha, opens his phone and sees the morning's intake by grade, the cash paid out and the stock now in the godown. The accountant raises the settlement notes that afternoon from the same records, and the lot goes to auction with its cost already known rather than reconstructed later.
Business in Idukki follows the crop and the visitor. Cardamom comes down from the growing belt to the Vandanmedu auction centre and the traders of Kattappana once the rains ease. Tea is plucked around Munnar through most of the year. Resorts fill and empty with the calendar. Few owners here run only one of these, and fewer still can see all of them in one report.

Green cardamom and pepper are bought from many small growers, weighed, graded and often paid for partly in advance. Kept on slips, nobody can say what a lot really cost. In ERPNext each purchase carries grower, weight, grade and advance, so a lot's cost is known before it is sold.
Workers are paid by the day, by the kilo plucked or by the task, and the headcount shifts with the season. Attendance and output entered at the division flow into payroll, with PF and the other deductions handled in the same run.
A family may hold an estate, a curing unit, a supermarket in Thodupuzha and a homestay near Kumily, each with its own Tally file. Multi-company accounts keep every entity's books separate while the owners see a combined position on any day.
