RFID is not for every business in Idukki, and a homestay or a small shop does not need it. It earns its place where stock or equipment is valuable, moves often and is hard to count by hand. Graded cardamom is worth a great deal per sack, yet most godowns count it by stack estimates and trust. Tagged sacks are read in bulk, lot by lot, and the count is compared with the books the same hour. Differences show up while they can still be explained.
When several growers' or several grades' lots share one floor, a misplaced sack goes out against the wrong sale. A tag carries the lot, grade and owner; a reader at the dispatch door warns if a sack outside the order is being loaded.
A plywood unit loads sheets by size and grade onto lorries in a hurry, and the dispatch note is written afterwards. Tagged bundles read at the loading bay create the delivery note from what actually went out.
An example
A trader's godown on the Kumily–Kattappana road holds several growers' cardamom in separate stacks, and a buyer's lorry is due at nine. The storekeeper walks the floor with a handheld reader before it arrives; in a few minutes the count of every tagged sack, by lot and grade, is on the screen and matches the books except for one sack that has drifted into the wrong stack. He moves it back. When loading begins, the reader at the door records each sack against the sales order and beeps once when a helper picks up a sack from a lot that is not on the order. The delivery note prints from what actually crossed the threshold, and the stock in ERPNext is already reduced.
We never start with a full rollout. A pilot on one godown or one store room proves read rates on your actual material, since cardamom in jute or poly sacks, damp air and metal racking all affect performance. Generally yes, with the right tag type and placement, but this is exactly what a pilot is for. Moisture and dense packing affect reads. We test tags on your sacks, in your godown, in your weather, and only recommend going further once the read rate is proven.
Frequently it is, and we will say so. Barcodes suit lower volumes where scanning each item is practical. RFID is justified when you must count many items fast, or when the stock is valuable enough that errors are costly. We help you compare both honestly.
