The district is a storage point by geography. Goods entering Kerala by road pass Walayar, and a good share rest in Palakkad warehouses before moving on. A fruit and vegetable processor leasing cold storage in the Mega Food Park at Kanjikode starts a Tuesday with a cycle count. The storekeeper scans a dozen pallet positions on a handheld and the system compares them with its own figure; one pallet is in the wrong bay and is corrected. An order for a Kochi retailer is released, and the pick list sends the picker to the oldest batch in the ripening chamber, not the nearest. A lorry of mangoes arrives at the pack house; the goods receipt records batch, grade and weight. By evening the owner in Ottapalam sees stock by chamber, batch age and days to expiry on his phone.
