The job is loaded and a bought-out part or the right grade of steel is missing. Planning from open orders, stock and lead times tells purchase what to order and when, and tells the planner which jobs can really start this week.
Quotes are built from material weight and a habitual mark-up, and nobody checks them against what the job consumed. With material issues, operation time and subcontract charges booked to the work order, actual cost per job sits beside the estimate.
An automotive buyer finds a defect and asks which heat, which batch, which shift. Searching registers takes days. Batch and serial tracking from raw material receipt through production to dispatch answers in minutes and limits a recall to the affected lot.
An example
At a fabrication shop in NIDA, the second shift starts on a Tuesday with the planner's screen showing which of the week's jobs have all their material. A structural order for a Coimbatore customer is released; the job card carries the plate's heat number from the goods receipt. The cutting operator scans the route card at each operation and the work order accrues material and time as the evening goes. A batch of brackets leaves for plating in the SIDCO estate on a subcontract challan and is expected back by the system on Thursday. At the end of the shift the supervisor sees actual cost beside estimate for the job just finished, and purchase sees what next week's jobs still lack.
