Forecasting needs history in usable form. The first stage of most projects is dull and necessary: consolidating years of Tally exports, spreadsheets and registers into clean data. We do this carefully because a model trained on untidy records gives confident wrong answers.
Grading of spices, veneer and sawn timber depends on experienced eyes that are hard to replace. Image-based models can assist by flagging defects and suggesting grades consistently, with a person making the final call on borderline lots.
Buying ahead of a season ties up capital; buying late loses sales. A demand forecast built from your own sales pattern, festival calendar and lead times will not be perfect, but it replaces a guess with a reasoned range.
An example
The owner of a coffee and pepper house in the city opens a screen with his tea. A model trained on his own purchase registers, past arrivals and public market prices shows the expected flow down the ghat road over the coming weeks and a range for what he might pay. He does not treat it as gospel; he treats it as a second opinion beside his uncle's. At the godown, a grader photographs sample trays and the image model flags two lots whose defect count looks high, so the senior grader checks those first. In the office, the clerk searches years of contracts by buyer and grade because the documents were read into a database last year. The decision to hold or sell is still the owner's. It is now made with figures on the table.
