Power cuts, humidity, salt air and flood water are all hard on hardware. Moving the system to a cloud data centre removes the physical risk, and staff can carry on from home or another unit when the premises cannot be reached.
A backup on the same machine or in the same building protects against very little. We schedule automatic backups to a separate region, test that they restore, and write down how long recovery takes, so the answer is known before it is needed.
Resorts on the lake and workshops in interior panchayats work on modest internet. A well-tuned cloud system with light pages runs better over a weak link than a remote desktop into a shop computer, and nothing depends on that computer staying switched on.
An example
A small engineering unit on the development plot at Chengannur loses its billing computer on a Thursday morning; the power supply has gone and the disk with it. The accountant does not lose a day.
