It is nine on a Friday evening at a jewellery wholesaler's showroom near Kokkalai. In the past, closing meant an hour with printed lists and tired eyes. Tonight the floor supervisor takes the handheld reader and walks the counters. Each tray is read in a pass; the count appears against the book stock on the screen, and a tray of rings shows one piece fewer than expected. The system says the ring was scanned out that afternoon to a goldsmith in Avannur for resizing, with the salesman's name against it, and the supervisor moves on. The vault trays are read through their glass without being lifted. A set sent to the Guruvayur branch on Tuesday shows as received there, not as missing here. The discrepancy list is empty, the reader's log has synced to ERPNext, and the shutters come down while the staff still have an evening left.
Nowhere in Kerala is the case for RFID plainer than in Thrissur's gold trade. A showroom on High Road or a wholesaler at Kokkalai may hold several thousand ornaments across dozens of trays, and each must be accounted for at closing. Staff count tray by tray against a printed list, often late into the evening. A missing ring is found a day later, if at all, and nobody can say when it left the tray.

Manual tray counts keep trusted staff back for an hour or more and still depend on tired eyes. With tagged ornaments, a reader passed over each tray reconciles it against the book stock in seconds, and the discrepancy list is ready while the counters are being cleared.
Ornaments sent to another branch, to a goldsmith for resizing, or shown at a customer's home are easy to lose track of. Every movement is scanned out and in, so at any time the system names who holds each piece and since when.
