The institutions of Thrissur have unusually broad customer bases. The same finance company serves a college student from Ramavarmapuram taking a first gold loan and a retired teacher in Ollur renewing a deposit. The same jewellery app must work for a bride's tech-fluent cousin and for her grandfather who pays the scheme instalment. Software designed by developers for developers fails the second group every time, and they are often the better customers.

On a Wednesday afternoon our designer sits in the lobby of a lodge in Guruvayur with a prototype of a jeweller's scheme app on a phone. The lodge is full of families in town for weddings, and the manager has agreed to let guests try it. A grandmother from Palakkad is asked to find her instalment balance; she reads the Malayalam label, taps once, and finds it. Asked to pay, she hesitates between two similar buttons, and the hesitation is noted. A young man cannot find a bangle's weight; noted again. By evening the designer has watched a dozen people and has two screens to redraw. The revised prototype reaches the jeweller's team in Thrissur the next morning, before a developer has written a line.
Design research cannot be done from a desk in another town. Because the expensive mistakes are structural: the wrong steps in the wrong order. Finding that out from a prototype takes days. Finding it out after launch means rebuilding. Visual polish matters, but most of our effort goes into flows, wording and testing with users.
Yes. We design bilingual interfaces and treat Malayalam as a first-class language, not a translation pasted in afterwards. Malayalam words are often longer than their English equivalents, so layouts, buttons and font choices are planned for both from the first wireframe.
Where it helps. ERPNext allows custom pages, simplified forms and role-specific workspaces. For counter or shop-floor users who need only three fields and one button, a purpose-designed screen on top of the ERP is often the difference between use and avoidance.
