Jewellery manufacturing units and showrooms tally every tray at opening and closing, piece by piece. With a tag on each ornament, a handheld reads a full tray in seconds, flags a missing piece immediately, and records who counted and when.
In textile godowns, bags of different lots look alike, and a mixed despatch ends in a claim from the knitter. Tagged bags are verified against the delivery order as they pass a reader at the loading bay, before the lorry leaves Coimbatore.
In engineering units, calibrated gauges and costly cutters drift between shifts and sections. Tagging them and issuing through a reader gives a custody record, so the toolroom knows who holds what and which gauges are due for calibration.
An example
A gold showroom on Oppanakara Street opens on a Tuesday with the usual routine, except that the morning count now takes minutes. A staff member passes a handheld reader over each tray and the system ticks off every tagged ornament against last night's closing. One bangle does not answer. The reader is run along the counters and the workshop bench, and the bangle turns up in the repair tray where a goldsmith left it. Across town at the COINDIA complex in Kallapalayam, a machining unit's tool crib issues gauges and cutters through a reader at the counter, so the night shift's custody is on record. In the afternoon a motor maker on the Kalapatti estate verifies a despatch of tagged cartons at the loading bay before the lorry leaves.
RFID is one service where site work cannot be avoided, because metal, liquids and layout all affect how tags read. Yes, with the right tags. Ordinary tags perform poorly on metal, so we use on-metal tags for tools and fixtures and purpose-made jewellery tags for ornaments. This is why we test on your real items during the survey before proposing any hardware.
You may not need to change everything. Barcodes are fine where items are scanned one at a time. RFID earns its place where you count in bulk, need speed, or lose items between points. Many sites run both, and ERPNext accepts either.
