Yes, with the right tags. Ordinary tags perform poorly on metal, so we use on-metal tags for tools and fixtures and purpose-made jewellery tags for ornaments. This is why we test on your real items during the survey before proposing any hardware.
You may not need to change everything. Barcodes are fine where items are scanned one at a time. RFID earns its place where you count in bulk, need speed, or lose items between points. Many sites run both, and ERPNext accepts either.
