On a Wednesday afternoon in an office at Kakkanad, five people who use the product every day sit down with a prototype. Nobody explains anything. The first user stalls on a screen the team thought was obvious, hunting for a button that sits below the fold. The second types a date in a format the field rejects without saying why. By the fifth the pattern is plain, and the team is arguing about a sketch rather than about code already written. The revised flow drops half the fields onto a second step, and the same test a fortnight later runs through with nobody asking a question.
The engineering in Kochi's product companies is generally sound. Design tends to be whatever the developer with an eye for colour managed between sprints. It shows in the result: forms with thirty fields, menus that mirror the tables underneath them, error messages only their author can interpret. Users cope, complain quietly or drift away, and the support team absorbs the cost of all three.

A screen that follows the table structure forces the user to think like the system. We start from the task instead: what the person is trying to finish, in what order, with which facts to hand. The same data rearranged around the job cuts both training time and mistakes.
Discovering that nobody can complete a flow once it is coded is the expensive way to find out. A clickable prototype put in front of a handful of real users exposes most of those problems while they still cost a sketch and an afternoon to correct.
